Learn how to install your own personal rain garden
Although spring might seem far away, it is just around the corner. Now is a great time for you to register online for one of our popular Metro Blooms Rain Garden Workshops to learn how to install your own personal rain garden.
Rain gardens are shallow basins planted with native perennials that catch and hold rainwater runoff, allowing it to soak into the ground. This replenishes groundwater and helps prevent pollutants from being washed into storm drains and carried to our lakes, rivers and streams. Rain gardens are beautiful areas that attract butterflies, birds and wildlife.
In our Rain Garden Workshop Part A, you will learn how to design and install your own rain garden, effectively using native plants and ornamental grasses, which do not need pesticides or fertilizer. You will also learn about eco-friendly lawn care and redirecting downspouts to keep rainwater on site. You will get a free packet of helpful materials, too. The cost for the workshop is only $10 per household. (See complete list of Workshop Part A dates below.)
As a follow-up to Part A, you can also choose to attend a small-group Coaching Seminar (Part B) to get personalized help with your rain garden design. Metro Blooms Landscape Design Assistants and Master Gardeners will answer your questions about your garden design, location on your property, and plant selection suitable to your conditions. The cost for this seminar is only $10 per household. Visit www.metroblooms.org for a complete list of dates.
